Eidiyah: A Fresh Approach to Money Envelopes for Eid

Preserving Tradition with a Modern Twist

Traditionally, money is given to children in plain envelopes or folded notes. However, Hind Abdulrahman Al Aayadhi wanted to create a design that would preserve the money-gifting tradition while adding a fresh and modern touch. The inspiration for Eidiyah came from her walks around the neighborhood, where she observed the charming details in flowers. The lively colors and concealed money inside the envelopes create excitement for the children, making the gifting experience even more special.

What sets Eidiyah apart from other money envelopes is its unique clasp design. The envelopes are made from 300 GSM Artematte paper with lamination, ensuring durability and a luxurious feel. The clasp, which represents a window on the day of Eid, opens and closes without the need for glue, making it reusable and environmentally friendly. This innovative feature not only adds to the design but also enhances the functionality of the envelopes.

The design process for Eidiyah involved sketching a draft of the design, scanning it, and transferring it to Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for further development. The type used in the design was specially developed using Adobe Illustrator, adding a personalized touch to the project. The final artwork was then sent to the press for fabrication and printing.

Eidiyah envelopes are available in a size that fits the money note perfectly, without bending it. When closed, the envelopes measure 17.5 cm in width and 8.2 cm in height. When opened, they expand to a width of 39 cm and a height of 14.6 cm.

The use of Eidiyah envelopes not only adds a modern touch to the tradition of gifting money on Eid but also contributes to organizing the gifting process. The hand-written greetings and vibrant colors reflect the festive occasion of Eid, creating a joyful and memorable experience for both the giver and the receiver.

Eidiyah has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2019, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Giftware Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Eidiyah's environmentally friendly clasp, vibrant colors, and thoughtful design make it a deserving recipient of this accolade.
